Marketing Director / Professional Hitting & Defensive Instructor

Ryan Tuntland joined the Play Ball USA team in September of 2018 as the Marketing Director, Hitting, and Defensive instructor. Ryan Tuntland is also in his 3rd year as Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant coach for Oakton Community College Baseball team. Tuntland assists the players in hitting, infield, strength & conditioning, and overall structure in their athletic habits. In 2018, Tuntland helped the Oakton Owls to their first ever National Championship for the college. In 2019, the Oakton Owls finished 5th in the country as they advanced to the World Series in consecutive years. The 2020 season is off to a great start and looking to repeat similar results this year.

Prior to his work with the Owls, Tuntland worked as Director of Player Development in 2017 for the West Virginia University baseball team. It was his second season working with the WVU baseball staff.

As the director of player development, Tuntland worked with players on and off the field on their development in academics, nutrition, strength and conditioning, sleep habits, daily routines and mental focus. While assisting the WVU team, Tuntland helped lead the mountaineers to their first NCAA Regional appearance since 1996, and competed in the Regional final against Wake Forest.
 
Tuntland returned to WVU in 2016 as an assistant coach after getting drafted by the San Francisco Giants organization in 2013. Tuntland brings a wealth of knowledge to his position, both from his time with the Giants and as a player and coach at WVU and Oakton Community College.
 
In 2016 as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers, Tuntland assisted with hitting and the infielders. While also finishing his degree, he helped lead WVU to its best record and offensive performance since joining the Big 12.
 
Summer of 2016, Tuntland also served as an assistant coach for the Woodland Strykers in the Texas Collegiate League.
 
After transferring to WVU as a junior in 2013, Tuntland started and played in 56 games at third base. He was second on the team with a .325 batting average and third with 65 hits and 36 RBI. He garnered All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team honors and was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.
 
In the Giants organization, Tuntland began his career in rookie ball with the Arizona League Giants. He quickly was promoted to Single A and the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, where he had 31 hits, 19 RBI and 26 walks in 36 games. In 2014, Tuntland was assigned to the Augusta GreenJackets, where he played 65 games. He recorded 40 hits, 17 RBI and had 59 total bases.
